The Grayson Vikings built off a strong 2024 season with a better 2025 season. Grayson finished 33-22 and 24-8 in conference play, earning an NTJCAC Conference Co-Championship. Head Coach Cal Hernandez just completed his third season, and in every season, he has helped 10+ athletes get signed at four-year universities, the majority of them D1.
LHP Braydon Risley - San Francisco Giants. Risley was selected in the 19th round of the MLB Draft. Risley had an outstanding 2025 season for the Vikings. He made 14 appearances (nine starts), compiling a 5-1 record with a 3.24 ERA. He tossed four complete games, and led the team with 83 strikeouts. He earned NTJCAC Player of the Week Honors twice, once for his perfect game against Cisco in April, and the other a 14 strikeout performance against Ranger in March. To add to his accolades, he earned NTJCAC 1st Team and All-Region 5 North Honors. Now he'll join another former Viking Josh Bostick in the San Francisco Giants organization.
1B/RHP Caleb Hoover - University of South Carolina. Hoover is headed to the SEC. In his lone season for the Vikings, he appeared in 41 games. He led the team with 16 home runs and finished second with 52 RBI, hitting .339. Hoover also led the team in walks (38), on base percentage (.506) and slugging percentage (.839). At the plate, nearly a third of his appearances were multi-RBI performances. In the Vikings' record-setting 28-5 victory over NCTC, Hoover hit two grand slams. Hoover made five appearances on the mound, compiling a 1.80 ERA. His season resulted in NTJCAC 1st Team All-Conference and All-Region 5 North Honors. Hoover is second in school history in single season home runs.
RHP Kade Neuenschwander - Sam Houston State University. Neuenschwander was a two year starter for the Vikings. He made 24 appearances (22 starts) in two seasons. During his sophomore season, Neuenschwander led the team with six consecutive complete games, finishing with a 7-4 record and a 2.32 ERA with 73 strikeouts. His ERA led the starters, and his strikeouts were second on the team. Among his outstanding performances, his one hit complete game shutout against Hill in March earned him NTJCAC Player of the Week Honors. Neuenschwander's season earned him 1st Team All-Conference and All-Region 5 North Honors.
LHP Chase Davis - Houston Christian University. Davis was a two year pitcher for the Vikings. He made 33 appearances in two seasons. During his freshman year, he compiled a 2.20 ERA with 36 strikeouts in 32.2 innings pitched. He was a second team All-Conference selection as a freshman. As a sophomore, he was equally as impressive; 33 strikeouts in 36.2 innings pitched.
RHP Tyler Sudderth - Lubbock Christian University. Sudderth made 13 appearances out of the bullpen for the Vikings. He struck out 17 in 16.1 innings pitched, earning two wins and a save. One of his standout performances came against top ranked Weatherford. In a back and forth affair, Sudderth locked down the Coyote offense, striking out three in 2.1 innings of work.
RHP Jack Surdey - North Dakota State University. In his lone year as a Viking, he made 12 appearances and two starts. Surdey picked up the win in non-conference action over Eastern Oklahoma State College in March. In his start, he threw four shutout innings, giving up just three hits, walking two and striking out four. He earned a pair of saves last season; one in a season opening win at Dallas College Eastfield, and the other to close the regular season at Tyler. For the year, he was 1-0 with a 4.5 ERA with 14 strikeouts in 20 innings.
INF Chase Womack - North Dakota State University. The sophomore infielder, predominantly manned the hot corner in 2025. He appeared in 50 games, finishing with a .342 average with nine home runs and 43 RBI. He had 54 hits, good for third on the team. Womack had a series to remember in April against NCTC. In the four game series, he finished 6-14 with four home runs and 12 RBI. He had a season high five RBI on two different occasions; in March against Hill, and against NCTC. His season earned him 2nd Team NTJCAC All-Conference Honors.
RHP Grady Moore - University of Incarnate Ward. Moore was a two year pitcher for the Vikings. In two seasons, he made 25 appearances with 17 starts. He tallied 75 strikeouts in 74.2 innings pitched. Moore tallied a Grayson career high seven strikeouts against Vernon in April. In 2025, he earned NTJCAC Player of the Week Honors after tossing five shutout innings with six strikeouts in a 3-0 win against Eastfield.
INF Sloan Barrett - Murray State University. As a freshman, Barrett played mostly at shortstop, before sliding over to second base for his sophomore season. The speed threat burst onto the scene as a freshman with a .396 batting average, and 72 hits. He drove in 34 runs, and stole 23 bases. His batting average, stolen bases and hits all led the team and he earned NTJCAC 1st Team All-Conference/All-Region 5 North Honors. As a sophomore, he hit .337 with five home runs, 37 RBI, 60 hits and 20 stolen bases. He recorded a multi-homer game against Seminole State in March, and had two separate four RBI games; against San Jacinto-North and Vernon. He was a NTJCAC 2nd Team All-Conference selection this past season, and ranks in the top 10 in both single season walks (41 in 2024) and stolen bases (20 in 2024)
C Kain Sanchez - St. Edwards University. The two year Grayson Vikings appeared in 74 games in two seasons. As a freshman, he hit .250 with 24 RBI, and stole three bases. During his sophomore campaign, he recorded back-to-back multi RBI games helping lead his team to wins against Vernon and NCTC. He was behind the plate for teammate Braydon Risley's complete game in an April win against Cisco.
OF Boston Lee - St. Edwards University. The sophomore outfielder appeared in 27 games last season. He hit .247 with three home runs and 15 RBI. Lee had a game to remember against 18th ranked McLennan, hitting a pinch hit walk-off RBI single, following that up with a three hit game two performance that included a home run to help split the series. Later in the season, Lee had a three game stretch that saw him drive in six runs with a home run.
OF Nik Sanders - Campbell University. Sanders appeared in 39 games last season for the Vikings. He finished with a .371 batting average, 12 home runs and 34 RBI. His 12 long balls were second on the team. He did turn in a .784 slugging percentage, which was second on the team. Sanders had several hot streaks this season. In a three game stretch against McLennan, Eastern Oklahoma State, and Weatherford, he hit three home runs and drove in seven. At the end of the season, Sanders was 8-12 with four home runs and eight RBI against Cisco and Tyler. His season earned him NTJCAC All-Conference and All-Region 5 North Honors.
All together, the Vikings had one selected in the MLB Draft (Risley), eight are playing at Division I universities (Hoover, Neuenschwander, Davis, Surdey, Womack, Moore, Barrett and Sanders), and three (Sudderth, Sanchez and Lee) are playing at Division II.
