Vikings outlasted by Howard College

A 40 point scoring outburst by the Grayson Vikings in the second half wasn't enough as Howard College rode a big first half, as the Vikings fell 82-63 on Saturday, Nov. 29.
After a scoreless opening minute, Jordan Williams drove the baseline and hit the short floater in the lane for a score. Howard went approximately 20 more seconds without a basket, and when they scored, that jumpstarted a 15-5 run over the first six minutes of the game. The Vikings answered right back with a Gelonni Ervin three pointer to cut it to eight points. Following the 12 minute media timeout, Howard went on a 12-2 scoring run, to lead 27-10 but the Vikings continued to fight back and cut into the deficit. They outscored Howard 15-13 over the final nine minutes of the first half, but Howard took a 42-23 into the locker room.
Williams opened the second half with a three and the Vikings kept up the fight, cutting into the Howard lead.
Later in the half, Dupree Fletcher Jr drove baseline and finished the floater to ignite a 9-0 scoring run, capped off by a score from Williams and a free throw from Fletcher Jr to bring the Vikings within 53-39. The Vikings kept cutting into the lead, but couldn't draw any closer on the scoreboard. Caleb Alcineus led the team in scoring with 13 points, While Williams added 11 and Farvens Ulysse and Julian Greer each had nine points. Greer also had six rebounds, while Fletcher Jr dished out a pair of assists.
The Vikings were very effective from the free throw line in this one, shooting 83 percent from the charity stripe. Greer made all five of his free throws, Ulysse was a perfect 4-4 and Alcineus and Judah Peña each made four.
The Vikings will hit the road for a two game road trip. First up is a trip to take on Eastern Oklahoma State College on Thursday, Dec. 4. Tip-off is set for 6pm.
