The Vikings couldn't have asked for a better start to conference play.
Six players scored in double figures, as Grayson scored a season high in points in a 98-62 win over Southwestern Christian on Wednesday, Jan. 7.
Southwestern Christian had a lead in the first quarter, but it evaporated as the Grayson offense began to heat up as they took a 24-19 lead at the end of the first quarter.
An 18-4 run by Grayson to open the second quarter blew the game open to help the Vikings open up their largest lead of the game. Madison Martin hit a pair of three's. Tay Biglow and Susan Fahnbulleh also contributed with deep shots of their own. Biglow closed the half with a crossover and layup to help the Vikings take a commanding 51-29 lead into the half. The defense held Southwest Christian to just 10 points in the quarter.
The Vikings scored 17 points as a team in the fourth quarter, but held Southwest Christian to just 11 to take a 28 point lead into the final quarter.
Southwestern Christian put up a quick five points to open the scoring, but Niamh Chamberlain quickly put an end to their run with a backdoor cut that led to a layup. Chamberlain was one of six different scorers in the quarter as the Vikings maintained their offensive explosion, scoring 30 points in the quarter. Susan Fahnbulleh scored five of the final seven points to help the Vikings start conference play off on the right foot.
Biglow and Fahnbulleh each had 19 points to lead in scoring. Iv Jackson (12), Fia Filoialli (11), Dree Johnson (11) and Martin (10) all led the offense. Johnson had a near double-double, finishing with nine rebounds. She also contributed five steals. Martin and Fahnbulleh each dished out five assists in the win.
The Vikings return home to take on Temple on Wednesday, Jan. 10. Tip-off is set for 5pm.
