Vikings sweep seventh ranked Paris

Catcher goes to throw the ball to first base.
Due to the lingering effects of the winter storm, No. 3 Grayson had to flip venues and play at No. 7 Paris on Monday afternoon in a rematch from the NJCAA World Series last year.

Game one

The Vikings won game one 4-1 behind a three hit, three RBI day from Addisyn Cox. She hit a two run double in the second inning and a solo home run in the sixth. Jaclyn Draeger hit a solo home run in the first inning for the early 1-0 lead. Both homers were their first of the season. Jadyn Scott hit a homer in the sixth for Paris.
Cox was 3-3 on the day to lead the offense. Aniyah Pequeno and Mia Krueger also tallied hits for the Vikings.
In the circle, Natalie Moreaux tossed 6.2 innings, giving up just three hits, a run, while striking out six.

Game two

The Vikings completed the sweep, winning 14-6 in game two.
In the first inning, Pequeno led off with a single, stole second and raced home on an RBI single from Willa Ford for a 1-0 lead and they were just getting started.
In the second inning, Cox was hit by a pitch and stole second. Paisley Needham drew a walk and Maile Larsen followed with an RBI single and a 2-0 lead. Two batters later, Pequeno walked to load the bases and Draeger cleared the bases with a three run double and a 5-0 lead.
A two run home run by Needham in the third inning gave the Vikings an 8-0 lead, adding on after a groundout scored the sixth run. Larsen hit a single and scored on a double by Matti Matthews for a 9-0 lead.
Paris added two runs in the third inning, scoring on an error and a single.
The Vikings came right back with two runs in the fourth inning. Three singles from Layla Sons, Mia Krueger and Cox loaded the bases with nobody out. Larsen and Matthews both hit RBI singles for an 11-2 lead.
A two run homer by Paris's Christi McGuire cut the lead to 11-4 and Peyton Peck added a homer in the sixth for Paris to cut the lead to 11-5, but the Viking offense continued to produce.
Pequeno ripped a one out single and scored on a triple by Draeger for a 12-5 lead. Ford belted a two run homer for a 14-5 lead. Paris put a run on the board in the seventh inning, but the Vikings closed out the win.
Pequeno (3-4), Ford (3-4) and Larsen (3-4) all led the team in hits. Draeger drove in four runs, while Ford drove in three in the win. All nine starters contributed at least one hit in a 19 hit effort.
Riley Mays threw five innings, giving up eight hits, three earned runs, while striking out three. Kynnedy Guthrie threw two innings out of the bullpen for the Vikings.

The win gives the Vikings three wins over top-10 teams in their first four games to begin the year as they are 3-1 to start the season.
They will head back to McLennan this weekend to take part in the Highlander games.
