Vikings rout Southwest Christian

The Vikings overcame a bit of a slow start to hand Southwest Christian a 89-71 defeat and sweep the season series on Saturday, Feb. 7.
In a back and forth first quarter, Southwest Christian held a slim 20-18 lead at the end of the opening period. That lead was short lived, as the Viking offense took over from there.
Lily Melton tied it at 20 with a layup, Susan Fahnbulleh answered with a three and the Vikings quickly jumped out on a 9-1 run to take a 27-21 lead. Fia Filoialli gave Grayson their largest lead at nine points with a three pointer and the Vikings took an 11 point lead into the half, outscoring SWCC 19-6 in the second quarter.
The third quarter saw a momentum shift. Melton's offensive rebound and layup gave the Vikings a 49-34 lead, which was their largest lead of the game with 4:51 left in the quarter. SWCC responded with a 15-7 run to pull within seven. Melton's layup pushed the lead back to nine, but an 8-0 run by SWCC erased the Viking double digit advantage and Grayson led by just one at the end of the third quarter.
A quick 8-0 run by the Vikings put them back in control. Ingram led the charge, capping the run with a short jumper in the lane helping Grayson build a 66-57 lead. SWCC cut it to six, but Biglow answered with another three. Ingram continued her hot shooting fourth quarter, with an and one basket. She scored 16 of her season high 30 points in the fourth quarter as the Vikings cruised to victory.
In addition to her 30 points, Ingram also grabbed 12 rebounds for another double-double. Melton chipped in 13 points off the bench, Fia Fioilalli and Fahnbulleh each had 11 points and Biglow had 10.
Grayson will remain home, taking on Ranger on Monday, Feb. 9, in their last game that was rescheduled due to the winter weather. Tip-off from Grayson College is set for 5pm.
