Vikings sweep Rose State

The Grayson Viking Softball team celebrates another victory. They are 13-1 on the young season.

The Grayson Vikings continued their dominant start to the season, with a sweep of Rose State on Wednesday, Feb. 18.

Game one

The Vikings started the day with their fifth shutout of the year, winning 6-0.
The game was scoreless until the fourth inning. Matthews led off with a single and scored on a homer from Willa Ford, her second of the season to jump out to a 2-0 lead.
In the fifth inning, Mia Krueger and Carolyn Koval both hit line drive singles. Aniyah Pequeno and Matti Matthews both drove in runs to make it 4-0. Ford drew a walk to load the bases and Larsen drove in a run with a sac fly. Jaclyn Draeger hit an RBI single to make it 6-0.
Natalie Moreaux continued her dominating start this season, throwing her fourth one hitter of the season and her fourth complete game. She struck out 11, giving her three games with at least 10 strikeouts this season. She also lowered her ERA to 0.31.
Offensively for the Vikings, Matthews, Draeger and Krueger all had two hits a piece. 

Game two

The Vikings run ruled Rose State in game two with a 10-1 victory.
Krueger had a two homer day for Grayson in this one.
Her first came to tie the game in the second inning at 1-1. She homered again in the fourth inning. Later in the inning, Matthews hit a two run double to extend the lead to 4-1. Needham's RBI single capped the big inning and put Grayson up 5-1. A two run single from Matthews in the fifth inning made it 7-1 and Koval ended it in the sixth with a three run blast, her second of the season. 
Krueger finished 2-2 with the two home runs, Matthews had a three hit day, driving in four runs. Koval drove in three for Grayson.
In the circle, Mays threw all six innings, giving up just five hits and striking out eight. 

The Vikings move to 13-1 on the year and will travel to Rose State on Saturday to close out the series. Doubleheader action begins at 1pm.
