After a pair of cancellations and a pair of postponements, the Vikings finally got to play in March. They started March the same way they ended February; with a sweep of the San Jac Ravens on March 6.
Game one
A six run third inning helped lift the Vikings to a five inning 10-1 victory in the opening game.
San Jac took the early lead on a one out RBI double to put Grayson in an early 1-0 hole at the end of the first inning.
In the top of the second, Jaclyn Draeger led off with a double and scored on an RBI single by Addisyn Cox. Cox would come around to score later in the inning on an RBI single from Aniyah Pequeno to give the Vikings a 2-1 lead and the lead for good.
In the third inning, the Vikings did their damage all with two outs. Willa Ford lined a single to move Jaclyn Draeger to second. Cox followed with an RBI single to extend the lead to 3-1. An RBI single from Layla Sons pushed the lead to 4-1. Larsen reached on an error to load the bases and Pequeno followed with a two run double and Matthews capped the inning with a run scoring single to give Grayson an 8-1 lead.
In the fourth, Cox hit her second homer of the season to score Draeger, who had walked earlier in the inning to give Grayson a commanding 10-1 lead.
Offensively, Pequeno finished her day 3-4 with three RBI. Cox drove in four runs with a three hit day of her own. In the circle, Moreaux tossed a five inning complete game, giving up just three hits, a run, while walking two and striking out three.
Game two
A seven run fifth innings helped complete another sweep for the Grayson Vikings.
In the first inning, Pequeno and Matthews led off with singles. Mia Krueger followed with an RBI single to take an early 1-0 lead. A fielder's choice groundout from Jaclyn Draeger gave the Vikings a 2-0 lead.
San Jac cut into the lead with a run in the first inning, but Grayson quickly got it back in the second inning. Sydney Mann led off with a single and scored on a double from Maile Larsen to push the lead to 3-1. After Pequeno drew a walk, Matthews followed with a double to give Grayson a 4-1 lead, but they weren't done yet. Krueger drew a walk and two batters later, Draeger followed with a two run double to give Grayson a 6-1 lead.
The Ravens added a run in the second inning, but the Vikings maintained their lead that would remain until the fifth inning.
Ford and Cox both led off with walks. A passed ball moved both runners up 60 feet, where Sydney Mann laced a two run single for an 8-2 lead. Larsen and Pequeno both followed suit with singles to load the bases. Matthews followed with a two run single to give the Vikings a 10-2 lead. A home run by Draeger (her fourth) gave the Vikings a commanding 13-2 lead.
The Ravens put two runs in the home half of the fifth inning, but Grayson shut the door and claimed the run rule victory.
Draeger drove in six runs on a pair of hits, while Matthews had a four hit day with a pair of RBI. Larsen and Mann also had two hit days, with two RBI (Mann) and Larsen drove in a run.
In the circle, Mays gave up seven hits, four runs, one earned run, walking three and struck out three in five innings of work.
