Former Grayson College baseball standout Dax Dathe is taking the next step in his baseball journey after signing a free agent contract with the Toronto Blue Jays following the 2026 Major League Baseball Draft.
A graduate of Stony Point High School, Dathe was a standout student-athlete before beginning his collegiate career at the University of Houston in 2020, where he appeared in four games before the season was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dathe transferred to Grayson College for the 2021 and 2022 seasons, quickly establishing himself as one of the Vikings' most dynamic two-way players.
As a freshman, he made 13 appearances on the mound, posting a 2-2 record with a 3.95 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 27.1 innings while also batting .313 in 21 games. He followed with an outstanding sophomore campaign, tying for the team lead with eight home runs while driving in 48 RBIs and batting .331 with seven stolen bases. On the mound, he tied for the team lead with three saves and struck out 24 batters in just 11.2 innings. His exceptional season earned NTJCAC All-Conference honors.
"Once you're a Viking, you're always part of the Grayson College family," said Grayson College President Dr. Jeremy McMillen. "We're incredibly proud of Dax and all he accomplished during his time here. Signing with the Toronto Blue Jays is a well-deserved opportunity, and we look forward to cheering him on as his professional career begins."
Following his time at Grayson College, Dathe transferred to Texas Tech University for the 2023 season, making five relief appearances for the Red Raiders before continuing his collegiate career at Angelo State University.
During the 2024 and 2025 seasons, Dathe developed into one of NCAA Division II's premier pitchers, compiling an 18-5 record with 194 strikeouts in 179.2 innings. In 2024, he finished 9-4 with a 4.85 ERA and 110 strikeouts, earning D2CCA, NCBWA and Lone Star Conference First Team All-Region honors. He followed with an even stronger 2025 campaign, posting a 9-1 record with a 2.99 ERA while limiting opponents to a .206 batting average. His performance earned First Team All-Lone Star Conference, ABCA/Rawlings First Team South Central All-Region, D2CCA First Team All-Region and NCBWA First Team All-Region honors, along with multiple Lone Star Conference Pitcher of the Week awards.
For his final season of collegiate eligibility, Dathe joined LSU for the 2026 campaign, making 12 appearances for the Tigers before pursuing his dream of professional baseball.
Now, after signing with the Toronto Blue Jays organization, Dathe becomes the latest former Viking to continue his career at the professional level, adding another chapter to Grayson College's long tradition of developing elite baseball talent.
